About Dorothy's

In 2025, Queer and Now were given the opportunity of a fixed premise thanks to South Western Rail. This gave birth to Dorothy's, a dedicated queer hub that opened in December 2025 at Sandown Train Station (at the site of the former Gaslight Cafe.

The space will be home to our regular events as well as housing many other organisations that find themselves venue hoping, as well as the ability to provide an integrated space for the local community focusing on well-being.

This is your invitation. Your space. Your call.

Dorothy’s didn’t open just to be looked at.

It opened to be used. This is a not-for-profit, community-run queer hub — built by our community, for our community — and every penny that comes through the door goes straight back into keeping this space alive, accessible, and queer.

This is a queer hub — built by our community, for our community — and now it’s time for you to claim it.

🎭 Got an idea for a night?
🎤 Want to perform, host, teach, talk, sing, rant, share, organise, heal, laugh, cry, or start something new?
☕ Fancy meeting friends somewhere that gets you?
🖤 Need a space that feels like home on a world that doesn’t always?

This is it.

Dorothy’s is not a passive venue.

It only works if we fill it with queer life.

So consider this a rally cry:

  • Bring your ideas

  • Bring your joy

  • Bring your politics, your brilliance

If you’ve ever said “I wish there was a queer space for…”

Congratulations. There is. And it’s yours.

Step forward. Start something. Say yes.

Because queer spaces don’t survive on vibes alone — they survive when a community shows up and uses them.

There’s no place like home.

And this one is yours 💖
